My Latest Creations

This is part of my New Eco Chic Collection. These multipurpose Necklaces are made from recycled T-Shirts! I cut up the shirts and add some bling. I have added flowers to these ones that are actually removable, so you can clip it in your hair or wear it as a brooch.

Here is my newest hat called Wisteria Gardens.

I saw a straw hat when I was out shopping recently and thought to myself, why not add some flowers and make it pretty?  So here is my latest creation! I am so excited about it and can't wait to make more.

How's My Hair Today

3/22/11 - Today I wanted to be curly, so I used a 3/4 in curling iron to curl my whole head. I teased the top part of my hair and then sprayed it. I pinned the top back with the Fairy Lands Bobby pins. You can buy your own set through my link http://www.etsy.com/listing/64793379/fairy-lands-purple-flower-bobby-pins. I didn't have time to take a picture of the front of my hair, but I just had my bangs swept to the side and I straightened and sprayed them with hairspray.

 XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

I thought it would be fun to show everyone all the different ways I style my hair since I don't like to ever repeat the same style two days in a row. A lot of people are curious on how much time I spend on my hair and how I choose my hairstyle for that day. Everyone thinks I spend a bunch of time on my hair, but really I don't. I just have my hair down to a science because I have been doing it for so long. I will try to post pics a few times a week depending on how busy my weeks are.

Ok, Let's start with Monday 3/20/11. I got up at 5:40AM packed my husbands lunch and made coffee (I'm such a good wife huh?) I checked my emails and watched a little t.v till 6:30AM. Woke my daughter up and started to get ready. I took a quick shower, but didn't wash my hair. I washed it last night before bed so It would air dry. I put on my make up and got dressed. Made my daughters lunch and made sure she got ready. Then I did her hair. She doesn't like to do much with her hair. I either straighten it or put it in a pony tail. I keep trying to get her to do something different but she won't. Anyways, so back to my hair. I was tired and it was a Monday and I really didn't feel like curling all of my hair, so I teased the top of it and then sprayed it with hairspray. I then twisted my bangs and pinned them back. I'm trying to grow them out. I took the rest of my hair and put it up in a claw clip.  I curled just a few pieces on top and sides. Of course I wanted to sport something that I made so I put in a cream flower bobby pin which I call Vanilla Twilight.   So then it was off to work and school we went!

Welcome To My Blog!

Hello!!! My name is Katie and welcome to my blog:) I have recently started my own business called FireFly Fantasies. www.fireflyfantasies1.etsy.com  I make beautiful jewelry and hair accessories. I would love to share my story with you

I LOVE to do hair! Anyone that knows me can tell you that. I think it all started when I was in 5th grade. I learned how to braid hair and I would braid all the girls hair at my babysitters house. My love for doing hair grew and grew. I remember when I got into 8th grade we had to write a report on what we wanted to be when we grew up. I wanted to own my own hair salon.
Every day that I went to school I had to have a different hairstyle. I had to color coordinate my accessories with all my outfits too! Every night I would dream about what I would wear and how I could style my hair for the next day. I would wake up sometimes at like 4:00am just to do my hair.( I know I was CRAZY) I dyed my hair all the time. Sometimes it didn't turn out so hot (like the time I turned it orange and I had to wear a hat so it wouldn't blind anyone) ......lol. I would cut my own hair too. I would also have all my friends over and I would style their hair for school or formals.
I wanted to go to cosmetology school so bad, but my parents had another idea for me. They didn't think that I would make enough money doing hair for a living (even though I think I could have gone to HollyWood with my  ideas) So they told me to go to college and get a business degree 1st and then if I still wanted to do hair after that, then I could go to cosmetology school. I wasn't thrilled about this idea, but I went to business school... I hated it! I went through almost two years until I couldn't do it anymore. I had a baby and got married in those two years and I had to get a full time job. I couldn't afford to go to school anymore and didn't have time.

I worked at two places until I got a job where I am now and have been for about 7 years now. I am a medical secretary at a Cancer facility. That was the last place I ever thought I would be working at. I hate needles, blood and the smell of Dr.'s offices. All the nurses there like to tease me about it because I freak out so bad. Anyways, I stayed there because I needed a job. I have gotten used to the smell and seeing blood is not so bad anymore, but still hate the shots.

I have always been artsy (taking after my dad's side of the family) and crafty. I am always dreaming up different things to make. I saw a necklace that someone made and I was looking at it and thought "Oh I could do that." So I tried it. I started making all kinds of jewelry. I loved it. I started selling to my friends and co workers.
Something was still missing though. I still had the urge to become a hairstylist. I tried and tried to figure out a way to go back to school for it, but mostly because of financial reasons I am not able to at this time.

So I was thinking, of course like I always am (sometimes I over think), and I thought I should make and sell hair accessories also. A co worker told me about www.ETSY.com  Where you can sell your handmade and vintage items. It sounded perfect! I opened my www.fireflyfantasies1.etsy.com shop and am now creating a blog and a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/FireflyFantasies. I love being a business owner and doing everything from making the items to marketing and photography and even modeling. Who knows, maybe my business will take off and I can make enough to follow my dreams?:)

I hope you enjoyed my blog so far. I will continue to post new blogs and hope that you will follow me. Thanks for reading XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO   LOL smiley face and have a nice day
